Denshichi of Kuromoncho is a subordinate of a police constable. He punishes widespread evil in the back streets of Edo with a purple truncheon entrusted to him by the inspector Toyama Saemon, who is the magistrate of Kitamachi. Denshichi condemns the crimes rather than the criminals and is sympathetic and kind. Despite his bright character, he had once accidentally killed a person in an attempt to save someone. That is why he implores that people live no matter what happens.
